The Concrete Jungle
Title: Concrete jungle & Cactus Queen 2016 Site Specific installation Varying dimensions Created for Oh! Open House (Potong Pasir edition) which dealt primarily with the lost of land due to rapid constructions experienced in Singapore. Growing up in Singapore, I’ve visited shopping malls more than I have to the park. Lacking in natural resources, we have no large expanse of land, nor breathtaking natural landforms that reminds me of “nature”. On the contrary, “nature” feels like the rows of endless consumables found in a supermarket. Cactus Queen - The work was projected onto a wall in which participants would peep in. As a tall video piece projected to the corners of the wall, the cactus ‘breathed’, moving in accordance to breathing sounds. Concrete Jungle - the work was mounted on a lightbox which was then put atop an existing treehouse on the property. Participants had to climb in order to see the ‘light’ at the top.
